Vanderveen & Moretti, Warm-up EntertainmentIce Cream Social by the Mercer Area Girl Scouts"The Star Spangled Banner" sung by John Stumpff, baritone.The MCB opened its 34th season with "Hawaii Five-0".Up close and personal with the band members.Instrumental soloist, Donald Gottlieb, piccolo.Mr. Gottlieb entertained with the very difficult piece, "Through the Air".The audience enjoyed "The Whistler and His Dog".Mr. Gottlieb received the applause of Dr. Hoge and the audience for his outstanding performance.Master of Ceremonies, Dave Portman, presented a flower basket to Mercer County State Bank in celebration of its 100th birthday.Mr. Doug Butchy, MCB Assistant Director, led the band for the "Genius of Paul Simon".Mr. Butchy also conducted the "Florentiner March".Vocal soloist, Valerie Howard, soprano.Dr. Howard presented selections from "The King and I".The Gershwin favorite, "Someone to Watch Over Me", was well received by the audience.Another Gershwin classic, "They Can't Take That Away From Me", was also performed.Dr. Howard led the audience in singing "In the Good Old Summertime".A large crowd was on hand for the first MCB concert of the season.
