“A Special Concert - Youngstown Community Concert Band”
Vehicle: 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Engine: 283 cubic inch V-8 and Four Speed Transmission
Owner: Rick Wiercinski, Mercer, PA
Rick has owned this Corvette since 1996. It has been restored, but not by Rick. 1961 was the last year for the 283 cubic inch engine in the Corvette. It was also the last year for the two-color exterior paint and the wide whitewall tires. In 1961, Chevrolet introduced the 327 cubic inch engine, narrow whitewalls and one-color exterior paint.
In 1961, 10,931 Corvettes were built with a base price of $3,934.00. The 1961 Corvette in many ways was the early design of the infamous Stingray. Corvette made a few changes this year such as a duck tailed rear end with four cylindrical taillights. The trunk became roomier too. The wheelbase was 102 inches, while the overall length was 177.2 inches.
