Warm-up entertainment by the Wasson Band Organ of Erie, PA.The organ is named "Trudy".Trudy has always been a favorite opening entertainment over the years.The inner workings of the the organ. The music is keyed by holes punched in the paper rolls.Ice Cream Social presented by the Mercer County Children's Aid Society.Special thanks to the Mt. Calvary Commandry #67 for raising the colors before the concert.The "Star Spangled Banner" played by the band and sung by the audience.The band opened with "The Olymnpics: A Centennial Celebration".Some members of the band have played for all 35 years.A balloon depiction of Director, Dr. Hendley D. Hoge. A remarkable likeness!Special thanks to Doug Williams, balloon artist of Dragon Fly Balloons for providing entertainment during the concert.Mr. Williams made balloon art and presented the finished products to children during the playing of "The Teddy Bear's Picnic".The children were pleased with their gifts from Mr. Williams.Mr. David Graham, flute soloist.Mr. Graham entertained with "Gemeinhardt Suite", a very difficult piece.Mr. Graham also performed the "Sweet Birdie Polka".Mr. Graham is a native of Butler, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. He also holds a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University.Mr. Graham received a standing ovation from the audience at the end of his outstanding.performance.The largest audience of the year was on hand for this 35th anniversary concert.Mr. John Stumpff, student assistant director, conducted "Cherish".Dr. Hendley D. Hoge, founder and director of the Mercer Community Band, led "The Cheerio March".Thirty-five years of great music and leadership. Congratulations to Dr. Hoge and the members of the Mercer Community Band.Mr. Doug Butchy, Assistant Director, led the band through "The Waltzing Cat".Mr. Butchy also conducted the "On the Square March".Featured vocalist (and trumpet player), Jon Seiger entertained with "Ain't Misbehavin'" and many more selections in the style of Louis Armstrong.Mr. Seiger also performed "The Man With A Horn".Another selection by Mr. Seiger was "Up A Lazy River"."Minnie the Moocher" was also presented.Mr. Seiger closed by leading the audience in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game".Mr. Seiger was very well received by the audience, and Dr. Hoge promised to have him back again in the future.The last selection for the MCB's thirthy-fifth anniversary concert was "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.After the concert, members of the band, band staff and their families enjoyed special anniversary cake.Special thanks to Cindy Murdoch for preparing and hosting the reception for the band.
