Krista Solars, warm-up entertainment.Randy Thompson, new master of ceremonies.Flag raising and "The Star Spangled Banner", sung by Matt Younger.The 36th season opened with "March from Carmen".A very large opening concert audience was on hand to enjoy the music and great weather.The second selection was "Try to Remember".Clarinet soloist, Susanne Ortner-Roberts performed "A Tribute to Artie Shaw".Ms. Ortner-Roberts also performed the theme from "Schindler's List".Ms. Ortner-Roberts talked to the audience after her performance.A view of the concert from the other side of Pitt Street.Assistant Student Director, Kyle Grabigel, was introduced by M. C., Randy Thompson.Mr. Grabigel conducted "Air for Band".Director, Dr. Hendley D. Hoge, led the band in the playing of "The Yellow Rose of Texas".Dr. Hoge is in his 36th year as director of the Mercer Community Band.The bandstand was crowded with many talented muscians.Assistant Director, Doug Butchy, conducted "Salvation is Created".Mr. Butchy also led the band in the playing of "Georgia On My Mind".The evening's ice cream social was hosted my the Mercer Area Girl Scouts.Vocal soloist, Sara Courtney.Mrs. Courtney entertained with selections from "Oliver"."Over the Rainbow" was also performed by Mrs. Courtney."As Time Goes By" was the final vocal selection.As the night approached, the band played "Surfin' USA".The final performance of the evening was the "Guadal Canal March" by Richard Rodgers.
